Coronavirus Conscious Facilities:
Community Health is an important part of the Y’s work and this facility has been upgraded to help mitigate or lessen the spread of the Coronavirus;
New Ion boosting technology: The facility has been retrofitted with bi-polar ionization equipment by GPS. This new technology improves indoor air quality by adding additional positive and negative ions into the room airflow, much like the way nature increases natural ions during a rainfall or at a waterfall. These ions have been shown to inactivate pathogens like the coronavirus. The additional ions help improve indoor air quality and help clean the air of harmful pollutants, dust, smoke, allergens, VOC’s and odors. There are no harmful byproducts of this new technology. While no known technology can totally prevent the spread of Coronavirus, this system may help mitigate the risk of transmission.

On site air quality testing: In recent tests during the heavy smoke in late August, the air was cleaner indoors than outside. Licensed engineers measured indoor air quality with sensitive equipment. YMCA’s HVAC equipment markedly reduced indoor smoke and small particulates (PM2.5). Indoor VOC’s and CO2 levels were equal to outdoor levels. Engineers also measured and adjusted resulting enhanced ion levels.
Improved ventilation: According to the CDC and ASHRAE engineers, “dilution is a solution” in regards to coronavirus as well as other indoor air pollutants. The Y facilities have been retrofitted to automatically sense the number of persons in rooms and increase the outside ventilation air automatically. This is called Demand Controlled Ventilation. Not all facilities have this key feature.
The child watch room circulates only 100% fresh air through a custom ‘Innovent’ HVAC unit. All the air from the room is exhausted continually and resupplied with 100% fresh air. Energy is recovered via a plate type air-to-air heat exchanger. During mild outdoor temperatures the other areas are manually adjusted to receive as much as 100% fresh outdoor air.
The YMCA has explored every available technology known to mitigate the coronavirus and is
implementing every practical applicable strategy for your safety.
