Position Title: Hemingway YMCA Assistant Preschool Teacher
Reports to: Community Outreach Director
Anticipated Hire Date: July 2008
GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction and supervision of the Community Outreach Director, and in harmony with the Mission, Purpose and established policies of the YMCA and the Wood River YMCA, the incumbent is responsible for providing and assisting with the quality Early Childhood Education for 4-5 year olds within the Wood River YMCA area.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
1. Incumbent must be bilingual; Spanish.
2. Experience in Early childhood preferred.
3. High School Diploma, College Preferred.
4. Assist in the implementation of preschool program based on the fundamental factors of child development, the Idaho Early Learning Standards and the YMCA curriculum, guidelines and philosophy.
5. Ability to work in partnership with Blaine County School District.
6. Must have a current First Aid and Child CPR certification or obtain certification upon hiring.
7. Must be willing to continually increase knowledge in the field of early childhood.
8. Must attend all required trainings provided by the YMCA.
9. Must abide by the YMCA procedures and policies.
10. Demonstrate genuine care and concern for children.
11. Demonstrate knowledge of activities appropriate for the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of pre-school age children.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist with developmental observations of children in accordance with standards.
2. Assist in maintaining accurate records of observations.
3. Assist with activities that help with socializing, playing and projects.
4. Demonstrate and model the four core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility in your daily life.
5. Assist Community Outreach Director with budget development and monthly reporting.
6. Ensure safety and well being of children at all times.
7. Maintain center in a clean and hazard free state.
8. Responsible for upkeep of classroom supplies and materials.
9. Present self as a positive role model, maintain neat and clean appearance.
10. Maintain prompt hours. Notify supervisor of illness. Secure substitute in the event of an absence with Director's approval.
11. Attend scheduled staff meetings and training.
12. Report suspected child abuse/neglect or behavior problems to supervisor immediately.
13. Work with staff members in a cooperative manner.
14. Communicate effectively with co-workers and parents.
15. Assist with registering children for Preschool/ Child Care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIORNMENT
Assistant teachers will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger to handle or feel objects, tools, controls, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee is sometimes required to taste and smell. The employee is regularly required to lift and move 50 plus pounds. Specific vision abilities include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These physical demands are required in order to teach, care for, discipline and provide for overall safety of children for which this position is responsible.

The Assistant teacher will be a part of a team of child care professionals who operate a safe, fun, enriching, and positive program for children and families in the community. The Center will have an excellent reputation for providing quality early childhood education and child care.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, this individual is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and potentially explosive materials. The noise level in this employee's work environment ranges from moderate to loud.
