belay certifications
Our goal is for you to have a safe, enjoyable climbing experience while you’re with us. In order to do that we need to make sure you know your stuff! There are multiple ways to get approved to belay at our facility.- On the Spot Belay Test – We’ll ask you to show us the following, without requiring any assistance from staff or others:
- Ability to correctly tie-in to a harness with a figure 8 knot.
- Properly assemble and attach the Gri Gri to your harness.
- Demonstrate correct belay technique (climbing and lowering).
- Demonstrate proper use of climbing commands and safety checks.
- Signed climbing waiver.
- Ability to correctly tie-in to a harness with a figure 8 knot.
- Take an On the Spot belay lesson with a staff member during open climb hours. They’ll teach you what you need to know and answer any questions you may have. This takes about 30-45 minutes and the cost is $10 per person.
When you come back for your next climbing time you’ll need to pass the On The Spot Belay Test so we know you’ve retained the required information in order to be considered belay certified.
- If you would rather climb and not worry about learning how to belay our staff are there to help. We are able to provide belays based on availability so please come and chat with us first so we can help meet your needs.
